To get started with your new VPS and upload your website, you will need to complete a number of steps. The first of these steps is deciding on a hostname. Your hostname can be anything in the form of "server.mydomain.com", for example "ducky.cirtexhosting.com" is a valid hostname. For this example, our hostname will be "server1.myhost.com".
When you first login to WHM using the login details provided from your Welcome E-Mail, you will notice in the left-hand pane a "Next" button. Follow the steps this button will guide you through. The first step will ask you to accept the license agreement with cPanel, click the accept button near the bottom of the page. The next page will be where we enter our hostname. Most of the information on this page will be left blank, but the necessary fields are as follows:
Quote:
Server Contact E-Mail Address: admin@myhost.com
*Default Home Directory: /home
*Home Directory Prefix: home
*Main Shared Virtual Host IP: {Leave as provided, this should be the primary IP address of your server, as contained in your Welcome E-Mail}
Hostname: server1.myhost.com
Primary Nameserver: ns1.myhost.com
Secondary Nameserver: ns2.myhost.com
|
*These fields are best left as they are automatically filled in. Do not adjust these fields unless you know exactly what you are doing.
For more information on setting up the nameservers, please check this How To:
How To: Set Up Custom Nameservers (DNS)
Click continue to save these settings, on the next few screens you will be asked to simply click "Continue" or fill in a few fields. These fields are automatically filled in and do not need modification until you get to the "MySQL Root Password" field. Enter your desired MySQL root password in this field and click continue. This should be the final step in the WHM setup process.
Once this has been completed, you can use the "Add Package" link to add a new hosting package for your primary account. Set it up with your desired settings & allotments.
Once you've created a new hosting package for your account, you can use the "Create an Account" link to setup your primary hosting account. This is similar to the Create Account option in Cirtex Reseller accounts. Once your account is setup, you may then login to FTP using your new account username and password and the primary IP address of your hosting server.
Now you're ready to start uploading your website and configuring your nameservers. =)
*NOTE:* The "root" user that is used for logging in to SSH and WHM, may not be used to login to FTP, you must use your newly created account username and password for FTP access.
