Default Best Forum Software

I've seen this debated over and over, but was just curious what the guys here thought about it. Please only suggest what you've actually used and not just what you've heard is good.

Default vBulletin ROCKS !!

Absolutely vBulletin. Run it for several sites for many years and very pleased with it depth (but it can be a bit overwelming at first). These guys use vBulletin obviously for a reason

I am curious what a hostv vBulletin partner is / does and what value-added service that might mean to HostV customers?

I think Invision PB and SMF are pretty good. SMF is free and you therefore cannot beat that. They are pretty good at support there as well. The version 2 is out now and is pretty snazzy.

Free stuff is usually buggy and wreaks with security problems. I think you can be safe with Vbulletin, they make the best forum based software out there.

I like both mybb and smf and i have heard a lot of praise on the latest phpbb3. I don't see the point paying when u can get free forum scripts which arent that buggy if at all.

phpbb is nice, it used to have security problems but I think the phpbb team has cleaned that up quite a bit.

Just try it out on this host and see what it's worth : create forum

PHPBB3 is definitely very feature rich but vBulletin gives the users a more professional image in general since it is not free and also more corporate in many senses

I used to like IPB until they started all the license restrictions. Now I'm cool with SMF. I never did like PHPBB because of security holes, did they fix those?
