Simple machines forum SMF... I have been using it for about three years now i switched over from Phpbb and have never regretted it. Lots of mods..lots of templates most are free and good forum support if you have any questions. Oh and real easy to update they tell you there is an update available and you click a link and automatic update happens.
great free software.

I like Simple machines. Their software is really growing and they are making some classy mods for it too.

They are 2.0 and its going to be a bang, but I generally don't like the default theme so I modify it.

They used to have some serious security holes, did they fix them?

Question SMF = vBulletin?

I was wondering if SMF is almost like vBulliten. If not, what is the closest software to it?

If you want honest and professional opinion .. go with VB look no further.. SMF lacks in many areas, try using VB/SMF together you will experience many things (btw VB is not FREE )
