Hello Postiga

Welcome to HostV, VPS servers have cisco routers and hardware firewalls.
The staff are not able to fully manage your VPS as this is your server, how ever if you send a ticket they will be able to install & configure your software at a one off price of $25.

Proxy sites are allowed, as long as they comply with the TOS and AUP.

There are a few fairly simple or reasonably simple firewalls you can install specifically apf it's the industry standard. In fact virtuozzo generally has ip table firewall installed but not setup. A simple click will activated it, but many don't recomend going this route. Apf firewall is top notch, in my experience never fails, and can be used in conjunction with something like dosdeflate which you can configure by cron to block your specified amount of connections. When the 2 are used together they are very powerful and work excellent.

Vps is pretty much a dedicated in a smaller environment so you have almost full control. Only drawbacks is you should really learn and read up on some of the things about security and modify files/conf to your needs of your site.

Your host such as hostv will help but in the long run you have final say in this environment. They will help, but always take your time and ask questions if your not sure.

Good luck!!

I know this thread is a little old but just wondering how you know they use:
cisco routers and hardware firewalls

Most hosts use software firewalls by means of ip tables or apf. If they do use hardware firewalls there is usually extra charge.

And cisco is nice, but I don't see any of this published anywhere unless I'm missing it.

No biggy just wondering.

The datacenter maintains the Cisco routers & hardware firewalls, without the routers for certain there would be no datacenter.
