Default not advisable for VZ1?

I was considering that Plan VZ1 has 256 Dedicated RAM. Cpanel/WHM requires 256RAM already, and adding sites might cause to use over than 256, that why I was looking for an additional memory option in the order form.

Does FFMPEG tools use high RAM resources? I'm considering converting a 20MB video file might crash the whole system, even with just 20 users.

I'm really not familiar with these things however i'll be willing to have things clarified.

I don't think 256MB is required, just recommended. I'm looking at cPanel's site and they also say 10GB-2TB is "required"... but infact even with CentOS it only takes up <4GB of space.

The main reason 256MB is required for cPanel is due to installation & updating scripts, as these can take up to 256MB RAM to process. The VZ1 plan also has 1GB burstable RAM, so if the server has extra RAM open, your VZ1 can use any extra to handle requests during any time you run out. 256MB RAM is plenty for getting started with a new VPS

I see. How about the RAM used when converting files or forums with over 30 users at the same time? Would that be a problem?

Probably - eventually. You might want to start with vz2 if you already have a popular site like that.

The VZ2 plan should be plenty enough for video sharing & converting videos, 2GB RAM is quite a bit of burstable memory for when users upload videos and they must be converted. When videos are not being converted, 512MB is plenty to serve files and download videos, etc.

If you have any further questions or concerns please do let us know.
