Default Maintenance of core LAMP components?

Hi, I'd like to get some clarification on a specific question that confuses me on the managed vs. semi-managed topic with regards to VPS.

I'm not a network engineer but I'm technical enough to be able to maintain the software that I install as well as learning other things things as I go. My only prior experience has been with shared hosting for a few smaller sites.

My question is this - with HostV VPS am I responsible for maintaining/patching/upgrading the "core components" pre-delivered with the hosting account such as the OS (Linux), PHP, MySQL, Apache? Those components worry me a little because they are the foundation for everything.

Cpanel automatically does this for you, there is little you must do if you don't wish to.

That's great news pcguy. I had no idea that the cPanel front-ends that type of maintenance. That would make life much easier for me.
