Does putting MJ on your site boost traffic?

A mate told me that he blogged about the MJ memorial service on his site and his traffic like tripled over night. Has anyone tried putting stuff on their site and seen a difference?

I have placed stuff on my blog but didn't notice any significant increase. i think if your site is already popular then this will just add to it just as any hot news item will.

For anything like this to catch you any traffic you already need to be a reputable source for info. FOr instance why go to your site when I can go to BBC or CNN for the info.

The news is starting to get old plus anything that is covered on a lot of sites won't give you many hits unless you have some kind of insider info.
