I disabled mine because the bots just waste resources searching through it for no reason there is no content there so why have it.

You can disable it to guests - that will take care of the bot problem.

One reason I think most people don't use it is because there simply is nothing going on! Put in some dates and make it come alive if you want to have it like a feature.

You can always add a "Today in History' script and then that will automatically have content for you I guess.

That is a good idea but you will be giving history rather than future events. Most people wants to know whats new than whats old.
