Usually what I do to prevent that is rename the classes so there isn't a conflict.

Or start your design from scratch and not copy stuff, that is proper design technique anyway.

One thing with CSS too is you need to make sure that it looks the same on all browsers because it often does not.

I've found it mostly looks different in older browsers, the newer ones tend to have things down really good.

Old browsers should be out. There are people still using IE6 but would you really build a site catering for them?
