Registrars are always looking for ways to make money because they have a huge overhead to pay.

It is kind of your fault if you don't renew though and that is why people register names for years in advance!

it kind of works many ways you see they have to also pay late fees to ICANN so its not all about them wanting to charge more.

I doubt they have to pay ICANN as much as the money they are asking for for redemption.
