Lightbulb Is writing HTML coding?

If you can create a web page in pure HTML does that make you a coder? If not, what does your code have to do before you can be considered a "coder"?

I think php or asp, jsp, and so on make you coders.

Html doesnt make you a coder because you can make it in word, copy and paste into frontpage and go "omgawsh innit im a coder"

For me code is simply using text to make something happen. Does that happen with HTML? If it does, then you are an HTML coder .

I don't think HTML is coding at least nobody see it that way and your future employers won't take it as such either.

I think it is some sort of coding, since you have to learn how to code the page in order to insert the things you wish to put then that's coding.

Okay but he can't put HTML as part of coding on his resume, he will look like a fool or worst like totally clueless.

The problem is that because HTML is so easy to write people don't take it that seriously but for me as long as you took the time to learn how to use it then you can call yourself whatever you wish.

I guess it all depends on your definition of coder. HTML particularly isn't consider the same as PHP therefore nobody would refer a webmaster who uses html as "coder".

Here is what I think. I am telling your browser what to do with the HTML code, because it is code right? So if I am dealing with code then I'm a programmer. Remember HTML looks like Chinese to someone with no experience.

Phpmotion, I guess from your name you know some php? I hope you don't go around telling people what you just said. I mean you might fool the ones who don't know anything about computers or programming, but you are not going to fool a coder.
