Do back links from low PR site do your own PR rating more good or bad?

I think they still help. Its not like you can control who links to your site anyway.

If it were true that back links hurt you in any form then people who like to those big sites would bring them down.

Of course, the more people have a link to your site the more popular you will become not only with Google PR, but other searches too.

I would not worry about that. Getting back links is the bigger problem.

For me its placing links where it matters, not just any and everywhere.

And where does it matter? If I could I would put links everywhere but some site owners are very hostile to linking.

You want to look for sites that have a similar theme and also a higher PR than yours.

Affiliates are pretty good at giving you back links, but it takes a little more work.
