How do you go about optimizing your VPS for greater memory usage and speed?

Make sure your scripts are not pulling too much resources. If you have reseller accounts then you'll have to make sure your clients aren't running crappy scripts either.

Its really hard to tell exactly which scripts are draining resources. I tend to just make sure that the scripts are up to date.

You can optimize the DB on mysql. I find a lot of the slow down is often there.

There is only so much you can do really, in the end you often have to just add additionally memory.

I tried adding additional memory in the hope that it would calm my memory problems but found instead that bad scripts just used up the added memory so it wasn't any help at all.

That's just it, how do you know how 'bad' a script is until your CPU / memory is maxed out?
